Types of braces

At Schroeder Orthodontics, we are a leader in cutting-edge orthodontics and offer many different types of braces to suit your orthodontic needs. Our offices in Southlake and Colleyville both offer all types of braces listed below.

Traditional metal braces

Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces. Technology for metal braces has advanced dramatically over the recent years, making this orthodontic treatment option more comfortable today than ever before.

Components of braces

  • Brackets– made from metal, brackets are attached to each tooth, either by bonding (glue or cement) or with a band.
  • Arch wire– a thin metal wire that runs over each bracket and provides the force and pressure to move teeth.
  • Elastics– (aka ligatures or ‘o-rings’) elastics come in many colors and are used to hold the arch wires in place.

Clear braces

Clear braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene, as clear braces are larger and more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, clear braces tend to be used more often on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.

How do I know if clear braces are the right option for me?

Clear braces are a great alternative to traditional metal braces and we will help you determine if they are the right treatment for you. They are much less noticeable than traditional metal braces, and clear braces offer an aesthetic alternative for patients seeking options other than traditional metal braces.

Many patients who choose clear braces feel more confident about their orthodontic treatment, especially knowing that people are focusing on their smiles rather than their braces.
